#R2BC - Reasons to be cheerful... 1, 2, 3

Thursday, 28 June 2012

Thursday again already! The weeks are flying by, in a blur most of the time it has to be said. These next few weeks are going to be busy with sports days, school performances and leavers assemblies... I can't believe my J is leaving Primary school, that in September he will be at "big school". Having two kids in Secondary school makes me feel REALLY old I must admit, which is a little bit sad considering I am not even 30 until September 1st!

L is feeling the strain of the last few weeks of term, when things are changing for him and he knows he will be moving classes, and his daily routine at school is all higgledy-piggledy with end-of-term activities etc, we've already had a couple of 'issues' (headmaster on the phone yesterday for example), I am just hoping I can keep L settled, calm & under control for these last few days of school before they break up for the summer... 17 to go!

So, let us consider my reasons to be cheerful, with everything that is going on...

1. I am SO grateful that L attends a school that understands his special needs and works with him to help him understand & learn to control his feelings, who WANT to help him and teach him rather than thinking he is too much like hard work and turfing him out. I don't think I will ever be able to thank them for all that they did for me and for him after I removed him (and J) from his previous school, after they treated him like an animal and refused to let him play with the other children, made him sit and watch the Christmas meal/party that they told him he wasn't allowed to attend (this was the day I came in to get him at lunchtime, emptied the boys lockers and walked out), and told me that his Autism was my fault for bad parenting (yes, seriously).

The boys current school is amazing, and I appreciate everything that they do and have done for my boys, including getting J back up level with his peers after his last school failed him and allowed him to fall behind despite me asking them to help him. Incidentally the NQT he had the final term before I took him out of that school didn't have his contract renewed the following year because of his poor performance, J would just have slipped through the net if I hadn't acted & taken them out of there. Their current school is FANTASTIC, and I just cannot stress it enough.

2. The husband has been getting on with the decorating that we started months ago and the house is looking lovely, new flooring in the kitchen (at last... the last floor we had was ruined by the washing machine after it leaked about 2+ years ago!) and I have finally replaced my leaking kettle & broken toaster with beautiful shiny new red ones, all the doors have been repainted, the bathroom redecorated completely (it looks so pretty!), our bedroom finished, the hall, stairs & landing carpeted... It is all coming together so nicely. I will share some pictures if anyone is interested in seeing his hard work.

3. I am so grateful that I have such a great family. My own little family of course, yes, but in this instance I am referring to my parents C & P, my sisters L, J, N & E and brother, W. We've had a great couple of weeks celebrating Father's day, being together to remember our Grampy, and starting out in a new joint venture which I am excited to tell you all about very soon. I shared some pictures from our annual family barbecue here. They drive me crazy sometimes but I do love them very much.

Not being pushy but remember that the #mums4good thing can support schools as well as charities. Let me know if you want to know more.
