Actually, I say 'the children', I mean the younger three mostly, because the older two these days don't seem to be able to contribute much more than a grunt before 10am. Getting them to acknowledge my existence (unless they want something) is no mean feat.
Toast is a favourite, because it's quick and portable, on the days when we're in a rush it can be popped in & out of the toaster in a flash, spread with whatever is available and transported in hand on the way to school. It can also be enjoyed leisurely in front of the TV or in bed (mind the crumbs) on a lazy Sunday morning. It's the perfect all-rounder. Likewise, it makes a great after-school snack!
Kingsmill kindly sent us a sample of their new Fruit & Fibre range, and we were only too happy to give a try! We received a bread loaf which was ideal for toasting, when the kids got home from school that afternoon I made several rounds and handed them out to the starving millions and I can tell you that it received a big thumbs up from my wee Owlets.
We found that it tasted great spread with some real butter, and the kids particularly enjoyed it with some raspberry jam and lemon curd. It didn't go very well with ham, as A discovered when the Mister mistakenly used it to make sandwiches... The less said about that the better I think.
Also in the Fruit & Fibre range with the bread loaf, are muffins and bagels, and all contain a selection of real fruit pieces and berries. They're made from a blend of white and wholemeal flours and contain 35-50% of your daily whole grain*. (*based on 2010 US dietary guidelines of 48g whole grain a day).
Kingsmill Fruit & Fibre bread is available from Sainsbury's, ASDA and Iceland, and the Fruit & Fibre muffins & Fruit & Fibre bagels are available from selected ASDA & Iceland stores.
