#R2BC - Reasons to be cheerful... 1, 2, 3

Thursday, 13 December 2012

Welcome to this week's #R2BC, hosted by the lovely Pressies By Pebbles so be sure to pop across and link up.

My reason to be cheerful this week is that L's physio thinks that he is making good progress with his leg casts, and that potentially next week could be his last set (for the time being) and that we might be able to have night casts for Christmas! Hurrah!

L has been such a star throughout all of this, he's been so brave and has had to put up with so much. At night time the casts tend to itch, so we have been giving him an antihistamine as & when it bothers him.

We also googled some other methods of easing the itching under his casts and found some interesting suggestions - tapping the casts, putting something cold like an ice pack or a bag of peas on the outside to cool his legs down, and also using the cool setting on a hair dryer to blow air down inside the casts. He's not allowed to put anything inside the cast to scratch his leg, in case he punctures the cast or injures his leg, which could get infected, so we're finding weird & wonderful ways to keep him comfortable.

He'll have to do continue to do his leg stretches twice a day, and wear supportive shoes and then hopefully he won't need to have more casts but there is always the possibility that he will. We're keeping hopeful now that this will help enough to correct the tight hamstrings, and in turn take the pressure off and ease the pain in his hips when he walks. For right now, he is doing great and I couldn't be more pleased. He's only got one more appointment before he gets his reward of a new Skylander Giant too, so lots to look forward to!
