Mama OWL Blog: A New Addition

A New Addition

Tuesday, 15 January 2013

I would like to introduce you to the newest member of our family, our new 'Chorkie' (Chihuahua/Yorkie cross) pup - Florence, aka Flo.

We have been discussing getting a dog for a while but didn't want to just rush out and buy one, never mind that we of course also had to save to pay for it. Christmas & life in general put it off for a while but then we found Flo and we're very happy with our new addition to the family.

She's settling in well and I have arranged her pet insurance so we are covered for all eventualities. I've registered & booked her in with the local vet to be checked over and start her care, vaccinations and the like. The vet offers what they call a puppy club which lasts a year and includes all vaccinations, micro-chipping, flea & worming treatments, as well as discounts on treatment so we will be taking advantage of that and signing her up at her first appointment this week.

We've done some research and read so many stories & articles about dogs being great companions for children with Autism. While Flo is not a trained service dog we hope that she will have a positive impact on L and really become a good friend to him, and will help to help teach him responsibility & to learn to care for someone else. He loves her so much already, all of the children are smitten with her and we are delighted to have her as part of our little family.

  1. She's gotrgeous! Dogs are wonderful friends! I have far too many (4) but my boys love playing with them and when I'm cross and Daddy is cross the boys can always cuddle a dog and pour out all their troubles to someone who just thinks they are wonderful!

  2. we love dogs! Sadly our Jack Russell is coming to the twilight of his years which is always so sad. We had a yorkie once too, Maxie, feisty little bundle of gorgeousness, give Flo a squeeze from me, she will give you years of unconditional love and some chewed up "things", "deposits" and many licked faces xx

  3. aww she's lovely. I didn't grow up with a dog but having one now and seeing the children with him I don't think we could ever be without one.
So nice seeing them interact with him and know they will be best buddies.
