Mama OWL Blog: An Underwater Birthday Adventure

An Underwater Birthday Adventure

Friday, 2 January 2015

It's been over a month since H's 9th birthday and party, but over Christmas the time does tend to run away from you and everything fell a bit by the wayside. We celebrated H's special day with an under the sea themed swimming party at the local pool, with all of his friends from school and rugby as well as his brother, sister, and cousin.

It was a fairly relaxed occasion as we simply had to turn up, swim, and then leave - exactly my kind of party. Probably the most stressful thing for me was making sure that everyone had their party bags, lunch boxes, and cupcakes at the end of the party. I made some shark themed vanilla cupcakes with blue buttercream icing and little shark fin picks & wrappers from Party Delights to decorate, they went down very well with all of the guests! It was so much easier to hand them out in individual plastic containers (purchased from eBay) rather than try and cut up a big cake for party bags.

H had 25 guests in total (including family), and they all had a great time. There was music, and lots of pool floats and toys in with them, & they were all suitably shattered by the time the party ended (parents delighted by this, of course - you're all very welcome). I filled the party bags with goodies including touchable bubbles, and fortune teller fish (very retro) as well as gold coins, and pre-made their party lunch boxes to hand out after the swim with crab croissants, baked stars(fish), grape seaweed, cheesy triangle shark teeth & penguin bar.

H had a memorable birthday party and received some great gifts including Lego sets, Tom Gates books and a robot building kit, and he is already busy planning what he wants for his special 'double digits' 10th birthday in November this year. I'm just hoping that whatever he chooses is as straightforward as this one!

    1. Thank you! Honestly it was so easy I had to do barely anything, his last three birthdays the parties have been brilliant so I'm going to be hard pressed to choose something as easy this year I think x
