Our three eldest all went back to school on Monday, with the younger two returning on Tuesday. I have had to drag E out of bed 3 out of 4 days, she is rubbish at getting up in the morning and hasn't enjoyed not being able to get up when she likes! The older four have been better but we have been met with many grumbles and moans particularly as the weather has been so miserable. The dark and cold mornings certainly don't encourage us to want to get out of our cosy warm beds and go outside, but get up & go outside we must.
I have been enticing the children out of their beds with warm breakfasts of waffles, porridge, and pancakes but I have to admit we're all rather looking forward to the February half term despite having only been back in routine for a week. Getting back into clubs and sports has been a bit of a slog after two weeks off but the children are pleased to be active again, frankly after all that over indulgence at Christmas I think we all need it - me especially!
I have better organised myself for next week to attend more of the P6P classes and I am very much looking forward to throwing myself in to it and shifting this weight, though I have at least managed to continue the C25K as planned (despite ruining my heels with my new trainers). I'll be posting an update next week with how I have been getting on.
The kids have had a great first week back at school. I have had an email from the SENCo at the senior school to say L has been very settled and working well, and E was thrilled to be moved up to level 6 in her reading after an assessment this week. A has been taking her AS level mocks and believes that they have gone well, and J & H are both enjoying being back with their friends - although sadly it seems that H's best friend has moved away suddenly over Christmas, and so he's feeling a bit down about that as he didn't have a chance to say goodbye or get any contact details for him. I'm going to have to do some detective work to see if I can get an address or something, I think it would be a shame for them to lose touch.
How have the rest of you been getting on?

I am glad I am not the only one who has found getting back to reality a bit of a rude awakening. Glad the kids are doing well back at school! Popped over from PoCoLo :)
ReplyDeleteIt has been somewhat of a shock to the system after such a lovely break! Thank you :)
DeleteHi from the Weekend Blog Hop! I wrote a similar post on getting back to reality this week. How Hubby would be going back to work and my oldest would be going back to school. But then school was cancelled so the only one who had to go back to reality was Hubby. Next week is going to be rough, assuming no winter weather :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband is self employed so sadly very little break for him over Christmas :( I think the kids have enjoyed being back in their routine with their friends though they'd never admit it haha
DeleteI think it's been a bit difficult for everyone this week getting back to reality! I have really not liked getting up for the school run! I hope your heels start to get better soon and looking forward to see how you get on!
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up with the #WeekendBlogHop (The other one, not the badge you have on this post lol)
Laura x x x
Thank you me too, I can't even wear my shoes properly because I can't bear to have anything touch them! I'm not enjoying the early mornings either, boo hiss!
DeleteYou're welcome, haha sorry I tried to get your badge on but the html just wouldn't work, I will have another go and see if I can get it working :) x
It sounds like you have had a good first week back - I don't envy you having to get so many children ready for school - one is enough for me, already dreading Little Man starting preschool! x
ReplyDeleteIt's tough going sometimes, if they're all being difficult and not wanting to get up it's a huge headache! We muddle through though :)
DeleteThe early alarms have definitely been a shock, but mine have settled back lovely *phew* x
ReplyDeleteThat's good news! Well done :) x
DeleteIt's a shock isn't it but quite nice to be getting back to a return. Thanks for linking up to #brilliantblogposts
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, I think we're all secretly a bit glad to be back to normal ;) x
DeleteOoh, can I pop round for breakfast? We're very much a toast or cereal family, never enough time for anything else. Getting the kids to bed at a normal time has been our biggest challenge but hopefully they're back in the swing of things now. #brilliantblogposts
ReplyDeleteYou certainly can! I find mine are much easier to coax out of their pits if there is something warm on offer haha, I have to get up a bit earlier (or make the waffles the night before!) but it makes the mornings easier!
DeleteI am same as you too. I will be back into a good routine and it will be the holidays again lol. Love lighter morning though, these dark mornings are so much hard work..
ReplyDeleteThanks for linknig up to the weekend blog hop :)
I do hate getting up in the dark, just feels so wrong!
DeleteGrace found it REALLY difficult this week bless her. It sounds like your breakfasts have been a great start to the day - fancy sending some this way?! I think we are all wishing for half term already! Great to see you on #PoCoLo :) Thank you for linking x
ReplyDeleteIt has been hard going hasn't it, January is a bit blah! You're welcome for breakfast any time! :)
DeleteGrace has found it really tricky going back to school this week. I think it is tougher after the Christmas holidays due to all the excitement. Your breakfasts sound amazing - we would love those :) All the best with the C25K. Thank you for linking to PoCoLo :) x
