I was full of enthusiasm last week, but how are things a week later?
I've been following the diet & nutrition advice from P6P to the letter. No cheating, lots of water, and keeping a diary of what I am eating. I have been pleasantly surprised to find that I am enjoying it so much more than I was expecting. I have been logging my meals/snacks/drinks etc with the MyFitnessPal app (username is jooleroo if you want to add me) and find it helpful to help me keep track (calories & nutrition wise) of what I am consuming, as well as keeping a written food diary.
Last Monday night I attended the welcome meeting at P6P, picked up my booklet and had a good read, met the instructors and learned about what was involved, how the classes work etc. It was very informative and I got to meet some of the other people who are signed up. I'm not really one for going to things by myself so this was quite a big deal for me, and I'm quite pleased with myself for having done it.
I nearly fell off the scales during the weighing & measuring, it was a big wake up call having not weighed myself in I don't know how long. I needed it though, because it has given me the extra motivation to shift it.
Tuesday morning, the Mister dropped me & the youngest two off at school and went on to work, and after I had taken them in to their classes I did my first day of C25K on my way home. The jog/walk went well, it was 3 miles and it took me an hour to get home, first half hour doing W1D1 of C25K and the other half hour just a leisurely walk until I reached my house. I actually really enjoyed it, which surprised me. I've been afraid of exercise for so long, I want to make this work & I really feel like I can do it.
Unfortunately my new trainers utterly shredded my heels and my socks were soaked in blood by the time I got home, a quick clean up and dressing on both (and a different pair of trainers) got me through the fitness test at P6P on Tuesday evening but come Wednesday morning I couldn't get my boots on - I pulled one on to my right foot only to feel like someone had taken a razor blade to my heel and yanked it off immediately, it had me in tears. The fitness test was hard work and I felt like a bit of a flubbery mess lolloping about but I did better than I thought I would, and it has motivated me to work hard so I can do better when we do it again in six weeks.
I'm probably not going to update weekly because I imagine it will be much the same thing each week, but I will share recipes, meal ideas and my weekly meal plans which hopefully might come in handy to some of you if you're looking for inspiration.
All in all it has been a good first week, with running and classes and getting in extra walks where I can, trying new meals, I am putting everything into it and already feeling the benefits, and enjoying it too. This is for ME. I won't be weighing myself weekly, instead I will let them weigh & measure me at P6P to keep an accurate record of my progress. I can feel that my clothes are looser, I have more energy and I am generally feeling better - and if that's not reason enough to keep going, then what is!

Sounds like you are doing really well, well done and it is so much harder to do in January so if you can keep achieving it now then....
ReplyDeleteI need to add some exercise other than the miles of dog walking I do to my life x
P.S Hope you heels mend quickly, ouch!
Thank you. I am really enjoying it which I think is half the battle. I have surprised myself and I am keen to give it my best and see what I can achieve. I never do anything for myself so it means a lot to me. x
DeleteWell done for starting - that's the hardest bit! Good luck with c25k and keep blogging about it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I certainly will :)
DeleteSounds like you are really sorted for the new year, I hope the exercise works out
ReplyDeleteThank you, so far so good!
DeleteWay to go. Good luck and keep going lovely xx
ReplyDeleteThank you very much :) x
DeleteKeep going! The start is the hardest and you are doing so well already. I have just got in from doing W3D1 on C25K and it's tough but I can now run for 3 minutes non stop, having that written down sounds so lame but for me a few months ago I couldn't run for a bus! Looking forward to reading how you get on over the next few weeks x
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't sound lame at all, I know how hard it is for me and I've just done week one haha! Thank you x
DeleteWay to go Mama! I think writing it down is sometimes the biggest step of all as it's not just a secret between you and your heel-shredding trainers!
ReplyDeleteGreat smoothie too - right up my street
Exactly! I did consider just not telling anyone and then coming back all TA DA! But then I thought - what better place to get support and motivation?!
DeleteI think the weekly updates are great, even if there's not much change, because you can be proud of any changes you've noticed/efforts you've made or share your worries/disappointment at things not going to plan. You're off to an amazingly start - well done :) And thanks for linking up on the Sunday weigh-in linkie xx
ReplyDeleteThank you very much :)
DeleteI am not aware of P6P, I am going to go and check it out. To be honest you had me wincing whem you described your heels, oh lord! A good pair of running trainers - and running socks, mine are slightly thicker, really help any rubbing of heels. Ouch, don't let it put you off the C25K though, it does get better and easier! MFP is an awesome app, have just linked it up with my Fitbit Flex finally so hopefully as of tomorrow there will be no escape! Thank you for linking up with Weight Loss Wednesday - stay cool and look forward to reading your progress next week! :) Sim xx
ReplyDeleteIt's short of Project 6 Pack, they are amazing and have helped me so much, so glad I joined :) Thank you, they're healing though very slowly and still giving me a bit of a headache unfortunately!
DeleteWell done for starting your healthier life journey, I too have started a weight loss journey 2 weeks ago. I has been a big shock to the system but it is getting easier!! Can`t wait for your next instalment xx http://poolemamma.blogspot.com/2015/01/slimming-world-journey-week-2-3-12lbs.html

DeleteYou sound as though you're doing wonderfully well already - even pushing past the (what sounds like incredible) pain barrier. I hope you heal quickly and can continue to achieve and surpass your goals!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how much they hurt, it's been a tough week but I have struggled through! Thank you
DeleteWow! Good for you- I really need to find my motivation- am glad to read you've found a way to take steps for you.

ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteYou are doing SO well! Well done!!!
ReplyDeleteMy old trainers did the same to me, I ended up buying a pair of rebbok classics and putting an extra sole in them. Just thought I'd share that tip :) xx
Thanks :)
DeleteSounds like you are already doing really well on your journey. I have started halfheartedly over the past couple of weeks but I need to add the exercise in.
ReplyDeleteThank you, so far so good! I'm keen to make a real difference before the summer so it's full steam ahead right now!
DeleteGood luck with your weightloss. I have put on a few pounds over xmas and need to loose them
ReplyDeleteThank you, and to you with yours :)
DeleteSOCKS! People always concentrate on the trainers knowing how important it is but the socks are just as important. Get some good blister prevention running socks. they are expensive but worth their weight in gold. Well done you for getting going. x
ReplyDeleteYou're quite right, I put zero thought into socks and look what it got me! I will be checking out your suggestion, thank you x
DeleteGet the best socks you can find, makes such a difference
ReplyDeleteEek, that's not good. I hate trainers for that very reason. I hope your heels have recovered now.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to reading your progress.
