The Swimming Gala 2015

Tuesday, 5 May 2015

Last year H was delighted when he was chosen to represent his school for our local area 'large schools' swimming gala. H is a natural athlete and will give anything a go, and swimming is definitely one of his strong suits. He is a well built, muscular lad (has been since birth, arrived weighing a healthy 10lb 1.2oz) and he is very powerful, and fast. He is tall for his age so his long legs are a definite advantage and again this year the same as last, he pulled off an absolute belter of a performance for his school.

H was chosen to compete in the Y4 boys front crawl race, and backstroke, and was first in his relay for the medley. He flew down the pool in his first race, beating the other four children - including two who are members of local swimming clubs - and securing first place! In his second race, the backstroke, he was ahead until the last moment when he caught his arm on the lane divider but he still managed a split second 2nd place win, we weren't sure until he came back with his certificate if he'd won or not but he completed an amazing swim and did a fantastic job for his team with 1st & 2nd again.

In his final race - the first stretch of the relay - he swam backstroke again and absolutely floored it, he was at the end tagging the next lad when the rest of them were only half way down the pool. The entire school team were brilliant and should be so proud of their effort and all of their hard work. When I left the pool I was hoarse from shouting and my hands were bright red from clapping and cheering them all on. It was a lovely atmosphere again and the kids from our school are such great competitors, and H is now very much looking forward to competing again next year for his school in Y5!
