Going on holiday when you're keeping to a health and fitness regime doesn't have to mean losing track of your fitness goals or ruining your diet. Having been with Project 6 Pack for just over 6 months now, I know what I should & shouldn't be eating and doing, and how to loosen the reins without letting the horse bolt completely, as it were.
We've just returned from a wonderful week-long break at San Lucianu Beach Resort in Corsica with Mark Warner Holidays, where I was able to indulge in some holiday dining (and a few treats!) without feeling like I was undoing all the hard work I've put in to losing weight and toning up since Christmas thanks to the daily fitness classes and extensive range of sports and activities that are available on the resort.
Every morning, the daily class schedule was written up on the white board next to one of the pools, by the side of a printed weekly schedule so it was easy to see what was on that day and to plan our days around which activities we wanted to do. The Mister was keen to take part in the volleyball and football matches, and the children were of course kept plenty busy with swimming, all of the kids clubs activities and watersports.
The fitness instructor at San Lu is Donna, who was warm and friendly and made me feel very welcome. The classes offered were very similar to the classes I attend at home which I was pleased about, as it meant I could follow the circuit and get the most out of the exercises. I loved the sunset and sunrise stretch classes in particular, there was something so serene about stretching & toning looking out to sea in one direction, with a breathtaking mountain backdrop in another. Donna covered the basics and asked if anyone had any injuries before starting the classes which is very important, and luckily I was in full working order so I could participate fully (and work off the cocktails...).
At the end of the week, I was presented with a certificate for 'Ab Attacker of the Week' for attending the core classes which I did really enjoy - the only thing I would have liked to have seen would be some sort of cover or sunshade over the aerobics deck as it got a bit too hot to lie or put your hands down on during some of the exercises. I loved being able to immerse myself in the holiday experience without falling out of my fitness routine. With the children attending the kids clubs & the Mister off playing ball games, it meant that I had time to take part in classes & sports or just go for a leisurely swim by myself, as well as being able to enjoy all of those things with them at different times too.
My favourite time to swim was early evening, to cool off from the heat of the day and enjoy a peaceful 10 minutes before getting the children ready for bed/kids club after their dinner. By this time the adult pool was lovely and warm and it was a pleasant way to end the day before getting ready for our evening meal and entertainment.
I found it easy to follow my diet during my stay though I was tempted often by the delicious range of food. The breakfast buffet offered lots of fresh fruit and natural yoghurt as well as fresh eggs - cooked any way you like by the chef - which I had with bacon and tomatoes almost every day, with fresh hot black coffee & herbal teas.
The lunchtime buffet (available with the full board upgrade) offered a wide range of salad items as well as a selection of cold meats and cheeses (I couldn't tell you whether or not the Brie was delicious because I didn't eat it every day...) and fresh baguettes, in addition to hot dishes such as fish, pasta, and potato, chips etc. At lunch I would pile my plate high with plenty of delicious salad, ham and things like boiled eggs, and I might have sneaked a little coleslaw with the cheese too... but on my return home I was rather pleased to discover that I am actually a pound lighter than I was two weeks ago, so we can absolutely pretend that the ice cream & the fabulous Corsican Rosé never happened.
The evening a la carte menu offered a wonderful choice of starters, main courses and desserts with vegetarian, and dairy and gluten free options, and if there was anything you were unsure of or wanted to know in particular you only had to ask and the kitchen staff were more than happy to help and answer any questions about the dishes.
I love that Mark Warner offer such an inclusive and family oriented holiday experience so that it can be enjoyed by everyone, and parents can have time together as well as with the children, and as we are such an active family I love that fitness and sports are such a central aspect to their holidays. There is of course still a time and place for relaxation, and there was plenty of that last week too such as when the Mister took the kids swimming and I, er... supervised... from the sun lounger next to the kids pool...
